Work

Work and initiatives

Two organisations I have founded, and the areas of practice that connect them: the software businesses depend on, and the digital institutions a country depends on.

Eppetech Software Solutions

Founder

eppetech.com (opens in a new tab)

A South African technology company building business software and supplying point-of-sale systems for local businesses and organisations.

Eppetech’s work covers both software and the hardware it runs on. Its products include Eppetech IMS, an inventory and order management system for small and medium businesses, and Eppetech POS, a point-of-sale and retail management platform currently in development. The company also supplies point-of-sale terminals, barcode scanners and receipt and label printers.

Alongside its products, Eppetech develops custom web, mobile and desktop applications, integrations and data work for retailers, warehouses, multi-branch businesses and enterprises. Eppetech is one of the case studies in Cross-Platform Powerhouse.

Digital Sovereignty Institute

Founder

digitalsovereigntyinstitute.org (opens in a new tab)

A South African policy research institute, established in 2026, working on responsible digital transformation in South Africa and the wider Global South.

The Institute works across five areas: digital governance, AI policy and ethics, cybersecurity governance, digital sovereignty and data protection, and the governance of emerging technologies.

Its inaugural policy brief, POPIA in the Age of AI, published in February 2026, examines where South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act falls short in the face of AI, deepfakes and social media, with recommendations for government and the Information Regulator.

Practice

Areas of practice

The kinds of problems I work on, and the thinking I bring to them.

Enterprise and cross-platform software

Business systems built in C# and .NET, with .NET MAUI and Blazor Hybrid where an application must run on the web, on mobile and on the desktop. The emphasis is on architecture that survives growth: a platform-agnostic core, platform services behind interfaces, and feature boundaries that keep the dependency graph legible.

AI-native architecture

Most AI work today is added to systems that were never designed for it. Re-architecting for AI means treating models as components with clear contracts — deciding where they sit, what data reaches them, how their output is checked, and where people stay in the loop.

Digital transformation and digital policy

Technology decisions are rarely only technical. Procurement, data protection law and dependence on foreign platforms shape what organisations — and countries — can build. This strand of work connects engineering practice to governance, with a particular focus on South Africa and the continent.

Some of my work is carried out for clients and employers whose systems are confidential. It is not described here.
